Our Guinea Pigs

Murry

Murry is a male guinea pig, that we got along with his friend Patches. They had been abandoned in a box, in the middle of a heat wave, with no water. We got him on July 27, 2012, before 7:00. It was the first day of the Olympics, so we debated about naming him Torch, but that would convey the wrong idea. They got a new, homemade cage, made from coroplast and a closet organizer. On February second of last year, Patches died, and we buried him out back. Murry has been alone for a while, but he is usually friendly if you have vegetables, especially carrots, celery, lettuce, and other such treats. He also gets excited if you click your tongue near his cage.

Flower.

We recently got Flower, a few days before Co-op began. She had been taken care of by a person who discovered that she had an allergy. Flower is a female guinea pig, so we have been keeping her in a different cage from Murry. She is very skittish, but is very friendly, unless you try to pick her up. She can run very fast. She is sick, though. She has an ear infection at the moment,  which makes her tilt her head strangely, and she became even more skittish, especially after we had to poke at her ear to identify the problem, and Mom and a friend tried to find out if she was a girl or boy. That was the first time I saw a guinea pig pee for defense. Twice. For some reason, she HATES carrots, and completely ignores them, but she likes green foods, such as lettuce, cucumbers, and celery.
