Petroglyphs:
an ancient mystery
Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. Petroglyphs. sounds boring, right? Wrong. Petroglyphs are AMAZING things that are found nearly all over the world! They can be big, small (though normally small), and there are thousands of types. No, i’m not talking about some kind of pigeon or dog. I’m talking about the history of pretty much all artists in the world that have ever lived. Let me narrow this down. Petroglyphs are basically doodles carved into rock by (guess who?) people who are probably are your ancestors. time for a little history lesson, guys!
so like i said before, petroglyphs are pictures carved onto rock. or into, i might say. they are drawn by prehistoric people. so carving your face into a rock does not count. SORRY. didn't mean to destroy it for you.
since petroglyphs are all over the world, there are many places where you can go see them, like the deer valley petroglyph preserve (DVPP) in phoenix, Arizona. having been to the DVPP, i saw the petroglyphs. they are all over the place, yet really hard to find. But once you see them they're actually really easy to find. It's like they are surrounding you, almost overwhelming you. its weird how something so small can be so huge at the same time. doesn't make much sense, does it?
They take all kinds of shapes like circles and lines. there are stars and squiggles, even one that looks kind of like a dragon! One of the most famous ones in the crouching man. It is found all over the world! why did it be drawn? people were all doing these really nice pictures and then suddenly started drawing… this!:
Why where petroglyphs drawn? where they doodles or a kind of language we just don’t understand? Or just figments of prehistoric people’s imagination? and who was the crouching man and why did they all draw him? these and many more mysteries are all trying to be solved by archaeologists, but all we are finding are more questions. But maybe we will all find out why tomorrow. maybe tomorrow, this huge riddle will be solved. Because no one knows what tomorrow will bring.
