Temminck's Tragopan

Scientific Name: Tragopan Temminckii.

Size: Approximately 64 cm long.

Habitat: It lives at high altitudes in cold, damp mountains and forests. They mostly live in Asia, especially in China, Tibet, and Nepal.

Lifespan: Unknown

Dangerous: No

Endangered: Least Concern.

Description

In the Temminck family, the males are the prettiest because are their bright blue chins. while the females are just a light brown color. This species migrates up and down mountains slopes according to season, spending cold winters at lower altitudes, and moving higher up in the summer. Because of where they live, they have a very diverse diet. They feed on berries, seeds, leaves, moss, flowers, insects, oysters, and green shoots. These birds are very shy and live singly or in pairs. The mating season starts in March to April and last for a month. The males courtship is an amazing sight (you should check out a video of their courtship dance). Their habitat is being invaded by humans and livestock. These birds are also hunted for their colorful feathers. The Chinese used to use these birds as signs of a long life.
