Story Writing Contest Announcement

Now presenting the 2014-2015 school year story writing contest!  DragonDawn and I came up with this concept and did a contest last year, and we deemed it such a success (eight people entered!) that we're doing it again.  The contest is open to all children in Mulberry, and we encourage any parents who feel their story judging skills are good are welcome to judge.  The age brackets are:
K-3 grade
4-5 grade
6+ grade
Basically whatever age group you do classes in.
The rules are:

  • ONE STORY ONLY
  • No working with other students to write your stories.  Parents may help you if you are in the K-3 grade group.
  • 10 pages maximum.
  • Fiction or interesting non-fiction (acceptable non-fiction: something funny that happened to you at one time.  Unacceptable : the eating habits of squirrels).
  • Typed and images must be scanned into the story or drawn on a computer, since the stories will be emailed to Ms. Lucy who will send the stories to judges.
  • Don't put your name or age on your story.
  • Judges only: You will not be judging an age bracket that has your child/children in it for fairness.  Please let us know if your child or children is entering if you want to judge so we can put you in an age bracket where you're children aren't.
  • Judges only:  Stories will be judged on 40% creativity, 30% Concept, and 30% Characters.  There will be a sheet emailed to you with stuff to fill out on the story along with the stories.
The contest submission date is from Feb. 28 - Mar. 31 2015.  Stories will be sent to judges on April 1, and there will be until the end of the school year for judging.  Results will be announced on the last day of school that you will be attending.
The fun part: PRIZES!
Prizes will be handed out at the Co-op fair; stories will also be displayed.  If you aren't going to be there, let us know and we can give you your prize(s) at another date. Everyone who enters will receive a book of their choice from a pile of used books.  If you have any used books, please donate them; any not picked will be donated to a library or go to the thrift.  There will also be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for each age group.  People may also provide prizes if they choose.

If you have any questions about the contest, would like to judge, or would like to provide prizes, please email mulberrytimes@gmail.com.  Thank you!
