Mildred D. Taylor: The best author ever

Mildred D. Taylor is (to me) just about the best author of all time.  In my opinion, her books are great.  Some of these great books include The Land, The Song of the Trees, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Let the Circle Be Unbroken, The Road to Memphis, The Gold CatilacMississippi Bridge, The Friendship, and The Well.   Mildred DeLois Taylor is an African-American woman who was born in Jackson Mississippi on September 13, 1943.  She writes mostly children's literature that is set in the south at the time of Segregation.  In her book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, she deticates the book to her father, who in her introduction, says that he was a wonderful story teller.  Throughout her childhood, she was told many stories, partly by her father and partly by other family members, about her ancestors and what they had to face, being African-Americans.  As a result, many of her books were based on those stories.  Also, when she was a young girl, she started going to an integrated school.  The textbooks in that school, in her opinion, did not communicate how much hardship the African-Americans of the past had to face because of the way the white people were treating them and also how much the African-Americans contributed to the society.  From this experience, she was determined to tell the truth about the cruelty toward her people and the importance of them in the American society, and she does this very much in her books.   I really recommend her books, especially Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
