Scratch

The Scratch Cat
Scratch is fun, easy programming site in which you use blocks to write scripts, dictating what happens. You can then post your creations, where they can be viewed by people around the world. It's mascot is the Scratch cat, as shown on the left. There is a large community of Scratchers, and some of the things they have created are amazing.

You do not have to create an account to use the site, but if you want to save your project, post it, like or favorite a project, or comment on a project, you have to create an account. However, the process used to create an account is quick, easy, and painless. Just four quick steps, and you're done. It does require you input your date of birth, which country you live in, and your email address, so be warned.

So now onto the fun part. Making a project is simple. First, you must select a sprite or sprites, the character/characters in your project. You can draw or upload a sprite, or you can use any of the pre-made ones in the scratch library. Then you have to write the script using blocks that you link together. There is a wide range of things you can do, like make sprites move, talk through sound or voice bubbles, change 'costumes', or even change colors! Simple as that!

If you need help, click the (?) button on the far right side of the screen, to find comprehensive tutorials, how-to guides, and useful information concerning the various blocks. The math class has been using Scratch to create a short, animated film, called Joerney of Joe! You will be able to find the the project here as soon as it's been uploaded! You can also visit the Scratch site here! I recommend this site to any aspiring programmer! If you have any questions or comments, comment below or email us at mulberrytimes@gmail.com!
