The Boxtrolls Movie Review

Quick Facts:
Rating: PG (creepy villain and some slightly distressing scenes, along with a little bit of rude humor)
Genre: Fantasy-comedy
Main Cast:
Isaac Hempstead-Wright as Eggs
Elle Fanning as Winnie Portley-Rind
Ben Kingsley as Archibald Snatcher
Jared Harris as Lord Portley-Rind

Plot:

In the town of Cheesebridge, everybody loves cheese and hates Boxtrolls.
All that food on the table is cheese
These Minion copycats are hated.

Boxtrolls are creatures that collect anything that isn't bolted down (and they'll try to unbolt the bolted down items) out of curiosity to make inventions for their awesome sewer hideout.

One day, a child is taken by the Boxtrolls, who are already not high on the cheese-tasting party invite list.  Everyone freaks out and one man, Archibald Snatcher, convinces the leader of the town, Lord Portley-Rind, to let him (Snatcher) get a white hat (the equivalent of a crown) if he (Snatcher) kills all of the Boxtrolls.  A sad day for the little Boxtrolls.  Over the next few years, the Boxtrolls take care of Eggs, the boy they took, and get killed off one by one on their stuff-finding travels. Eggs gets spotted by Winnie, the Lord's daughter, who convinces him to help the Boxtrolls fight back against Snatcher and his henchmen. Eggs, Winnie, and the Boxtrolls go off and save the world.

My Opinion

It was quite a funny movie, with the Boxtrolls basically box-wearing Minions, Snatcher being allergic to cheese, and Winnie's general freaking out about Egg's lack of etiquette.

The stop-motion/CGI was very impressive.  The movie also had a good message: your social status and your external appearance don't determine who you are.  I give it a 5/5.
