DYK- animals

  •  The blue whale’s tongue weighs as much as an adult elephant.

  • Houseflies hum in the key of F.

  • The flamingo can only eat when its head is upside-down.

  • One species of jellyfish can revert back to it's child stage after becoming mature, effectively making it immortal.

  • Only half of a dolphin's brain sleeps at a time. The other half makes sure it comes up for air so it doesn't drown.

  • A snail can sleep for 3 years at a time.

  • A newborn Chinese water deer is so small it can almost be held in the palm of the hand.

  • Once a giant clam picks a spot to live on a reef, it does not move for the rest of its life.

  • The kick of an ostrich is used as a weapon and is capable of killing a lion — and yes, humans too.

  • Goats and sheep have rectangular pupils which allow them to see nearly 360 degrees around themselves.
  • No two tigers have the exact same stripes.
