A British ship is on a fleet to stop the French from trying to control the seas around the brazil area. They are trying to surprise the French ship but instead the French attack them. The story is about the British commander who uses his skills and tactics to fight against the stronger ship in unfamiliar seas.
What I liked about the movie was it really gives you a good sense of what it's like to be on a navy ship in the early 1800's. And also what it's like to be a captain. The way in which it gives you a good sense is that the movie shows that the captain shows how to keep ranks. Like when one of the regular crew members shoves one of the minor officers and the captain has one of the other men beat him with a whip because he wants to keep rank and not to have the crew over throw the captain. You know what the captain is thinking when he decides to whip his own man, because he has a deep conversation with the doctor (who is his friend) and you pick up about what their thinking. A way in which the captain uses his tactics is that they are trying to surprise the French ship. So they pretend they are a fishing ship and act like one to attack the French ship.
These scenes make the movie come alive a lot, and I highly recommend it.
