Volkswagon, a German car company, has recently been found to be violating certain environmental protection laws with it's use of too many pollutants in a recent model. Every car sold in the United States has to be inspected, or take an "emissions test". These tests make sure that the car does not use too many pollutants to run, thus trying to help the problem of climate change. Well, Volkswagon discovered a way to get around these tests. The company programmed their cars so that when the test was performed, the standards that the U.S. had set were met, but ONLY for the time of the emissions test. About eleven million cars world wide were sold with this programming and five hundred thousand in the U.S.
This all started on September 18, 2015 when The United States Environmental Protection Agency issued a notice of violation of the clean air act to Volkswagon. After this was an outrage and many countries across the world started inspecting the Volkswagon 2009 model. And as a result, the Volkswagon company may very well go bankrupt. About seven billion dollars will be spent correcting the cars to meet the standards and that doesn't even include fines they may have to pay if they are taken to court.
