Fedoras originally appeared in an 1882 play. The main character of this play wore a hat with a wide ribbon around the indented and creased crown, with a wide brim to set it off. It was immediately shown as a sign of feminism, and was very popular. However, in 1924, Prince Edward of Britain started wearing them, and they became popular for men. It was most popular in the mid 1920s, becoming associated with gangsters and prohibition, but went out of style for a decade or so. It has been recently making a comeback, and can go along with nearly any outfit, almost always making that outfit look snappy. They come in a variety of colors, and in many different sizes.
