The Presidential Election

Right now, the U.S. is preparing for a very big political event.  In November, 2016, just one year from now, our country will be making a very important decision: who will be our next president.  Though November seems far away, the process starts less than six months from now.  The Primaries, when people vote state by state to decide which candidate they want to represent their party, starts in February.
The process of electing a new president is not as simple as you may think.  First, People vote.  Then, depending on the majority vote in that state, electors are sent to the electoral college.  Then the electors vote, deciding the new president.
Our country runs on a two party system.  The democrats believe in a larger role for government, especially in social services.  The republicans believe in a smaller role for government.  Also, their political views tend to be more influenced by their Christian faith and they have more conservative views on social issues including gay marriage and abortion.
The leading three candidates from the republican party are Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina.  Surprisingly, non of these candidates have any former political experience.  Donald Trump was a business man, Ben Carson a Nero surgeon, and Carly Fiorina was the CEO of a computer company.  The leading two democratic candidates are Hillary Clinton and Burnie Sanders.  Hillary Clinton, wife of former president Bill Clinton, was a senator from New York and secretary of state.  Although she is the favored candidate for the democratic nomination, she has had some trouble for using a private email account instead of the government made one when she was secretary of state.  Burnie Sanders was an independent senator from Vermont but is now running a democrat for president.
Barack Obama has been president since I can remember and I am very excited to see what a new president will bring.
