The Matrix Movie Review

Quick Facts

Rating: R (However, I think the movie should be rated PG-13, because even though there's violence, it's not gory, the 'sexual content' is just some kissing, and though there is a decent amount of profanity, they are mostly minor)
Main Cast:
  • Keanu Reeves as Thomas A. Anderson/Neo.
  • Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus.
  • Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity
  • Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith
Genre: Sci-Fi Action

Plot

Thomas Anderson is a computer programmer with a double life as Neo, the computer hacker.
He dodges bullets.  That's really cool.

He finds himself targeted by police and is contacted by the legendary hacker, Morpheus.

Everyone wears sunglasses that somehow manage to stay on their faces while doing karate moves or dodging bullets.
Neo and Morpheus meet and Neo is given an option: take the red pill and learn the truth, or the blue pill and forget this ever happened.
(Hint:  he took the red pill)
Neo is rescued from the Matrix and is taken to the Nebuchadnezzar (a ship) where he finds out that in the 21st century, humanity waged a battle against the AI (artificial intelligence) they had created.
Not a pretty little Earth
The humans created permanent night to prevent the robots from gaining power (the robots are solar powered.  How environmentally conscious!), but the robots figured out how to use the humans electrochemical energy to power themselves.
The people farm scene might be disturbing for some viewers.
To keep the humans happy while their life is being sucked away, the robots created a virtual simulator called the Matrix that is set in 1999.
Really ugly cellphones were created during this time.

So Neo and the humans on the Nebuchadnezzar go off and start to save humanity.

My Opinion

It was amazing.  The acting was good, the special effects were astounding (this movie was the first to use 'bullet time', a slow motion effect) and the plot didn't have any big holes in it.  I give it a 5/5.
